Abstract

Japan is becoming a popular tourist destination, and the number of international tourists visiting Japan is increasing every year. However, Japan is prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons. International tourists, who do not understand the Japanese language, may find it difficult to understand what happened during a disaster, and they may also face difficulties in obtaining the relevant information. Hence, in this study, we developed a system for providing disaster prevention information to international tourists and evaluated the methods of information presentation. In the first approach, we employed two-choice quiz questions with correct and incorrect answers. However, there are certain situations in a disaster during which it may not be possible to make the correct choice, and one may have to individually determine the appropriate course of action. In this paper, therefore, we proposed a method for presenting information by incorporating two-choice questions without correct answers. In addition, we proposed a method for providing disaster prevention information to international tourists so that they are aware of the types of disasters that they may encounter at their travel destinations. Furthermore, we presented an overview of each method and demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
